Residential Supervisor

POSITION TITLE:   Residential Supervisor        SITE:   Children’s Shelter

REPORTS TO:   Program Coordinator   

GENERAL FUNCTION:   This position provides for the protection, physical safety and care of residents, ages 6 – 18, individually and in groups;  and provides direction/supervision to the childcare workers.

QUALIFICATIONS:   Must have at least two years experience working in residential treatment and the supervision of staff.  BA in human science field preferred.  Must be a professional and adult role model with the ability to effectively set limits and function in crisis-oriented and high stress situations.  Must be able to work as a part of a team.  Must have ambulatory, auditory and visual skills to observe and physically intervene with residents when required. Must have the physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills, including, but not limited to crouching, lifting 50 pounds, running, crawling on hands and knees, and walking up and down stairs.   Pro Act trained, bi-lingual and bi-cultural desirable.  Must be proficient in English and have clear written and verbal communication skills; bi-lingual and bi-cultural preferred. 

MAJOR TASKS:

  1. Assure that CCW’s follow Resident Program procedures; report problems to Program Coordinator or Program Manager.
  2. Participate and direct the frontline Childcare Workers to provide for the supervision, protection and care of the residents.
  3. Assess the individual needs of each resident and be aware of planned appointments, visits, and passes.
  4. Act as interface between participating children and donors at donor hosted events.
  5. Conduct or cause to be conducted Expectation/Debriefing groups before and after activities and events.
  6. Answer the phone on evenings and weekends, and in the absence of the administrative support staff.
  7. Assure that childcare staff follow the daily resident schedule and all agency procedures.  Instruct staff in a constructive manner when necessary.
  8. Report supply, housekeeping, and maintenance needs to the Property Manager.
  9. Be aware of maintenance needs and record maintenance requests promptly in the maintenance log.  Report maintenance and janitorial needs to the Property Manager.
  10. Regularly update TU and CU bulletin boards with culturally diverse material. Also post cultural events, calendars, schedules and educational items.
  11. Assure that clients have adequate clothing per the clothing inventory standards.  Notify primary childcare workers of needs.  Complete a supply request for needs, which cannot be met through existing supplies.
  12. Provide Program Coordinator with coaching notes, and written and verbal warnings of childcare staff as required in disciplinary action.
  13. Provide situational counseling to residents as needed and document in progress notes.
  14. Assure administration of medications per the medication policies and assure the accuracy of medical documentation.
  15. Assign the childcare workers to specific groups of children or individual children, as needed.
  16. Instruct childcare staff of appropriate and effective use of the point level system and the consistent assigning of points.  Assure that all point sheets and progress notes are completed accurately, by the end of each shift.
  17. Demonstrate and provide guidance to childcare staff regarding appropriate limit setting and crisis interventions.
  18. Make daily notations of each child’s progress, identifying the need for additional services and communicating this to clinical staff.
  19. In the absence of the Program Coordinator and the Program Manager, carry out program operations, consulting with those positions as necessary.
  20. Direct all decisions, approvals, and discussions regarding a child’s therapy, placement, contacts, off-site treatment, etc. to the child’s assigned therapist.
  21. Oversee the completion of intake and discharge paperwork in the absence of the intake coordinator.  Review the paperwork for completion and instruct childcare staff as needed.
  22. Provide on-going training and feedback to childcare staff.  Communicate all training needs to Program Coordinator.
  23. Casa Incentive Store – receive, store and distribute all items; collaborate with the Property Manager regarding storage availability.

 Facilities/Supplies:

  1. Identify and implement appropriate safety and emergency procedures for group activities, ensuring that all materials/supplies, and equipment is in good working order. Notify supervisor and maintenance staff of any needed repairs.
  2. Monthly initiate and coordinate implementation of holiday and cultural decorations on units in hallways and in the recreation room.
  3. Maintain orderliness of supplies and facilities. Inform supervisor of needed supplies in a timely manner.
  4. Maintains orderly inventory of Art Supply and Recreation cabinets for Childcare Worker access.
