How To Volunteer

Guidelines
Casa Kids are often emotionally vulnerable, having suffered from abuse, neglect or abandonment. It is our goal at Casa de Amparo to protect, nurture and guide our young survivors and to demonstrate to them that caring people will be there for them. To that end, we ask that our volunteers commit to a minimum of 6 months, 8 hours per month.

Requirements
1.  Volunteers must be at least 18 at the Children’s Shelter and 15 at the Hayward Child Development Center.

2.  A TB test and fingerprinting are required of all volunteers over the age of 18 for positions working directly with clients. This is not required for volunteers under 18 and those not working directly with clients nor for one-time or quarterly volunteers.

Please note:
Longer term (6 months or more) volunteers working directly with Casa Kids or in administration are required to have a TB test and fingerprinting.  The cost is $96 and is covered by the volunteer; however you may request for a reimbursement after 6 months and 60 hours of continuous volunteer work.

3.  Potential volunteers are automatically disqualified to volunteer if something negative comes up in their background check, such as a current or past DUI or any other felony reason.  Casa de Amparo will not reimburse the cost of the livescan fee.

4.  One-time and quarterly volunteers need only to sign a confidentiality waiver.

5.  We do not accept court mandated volunteers.

Steps to Become a Volunteer
1.  Complete the Volunteer Enrollment Form and email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , print and fax to 760-757-0792, or mail to Casa de Amparo, 3355 Mission Ave., Ste. 238, Oceanside, CA 92058.  If you have a resume then please send that in too.

2.  Once we’ve received your volunteer enrollment form, we will contact you for an interview.  At the time of the interview, we will discussed current available positions, available shifts/hours, process of livescan and TB Testing, a brief history of Casa, and answer any questions you may have, etc.  The interview will be between 30-45 minutes.

3.  Once the interview is done, then we will wait for the livescan and/or TB test results.  Once that is cleared, then the Community Services Coordinator will contact you to place you in the appropriate position.

4.  Prior to starting your volunteer position, you will participate in a short orientation--either at the site that you will be working at or with the Community Services Coordinator, and/or  attend a tour of Casa, introduce you to staff, and welcoming you to our volunteer family.

5.  Depending on your status, especially for long term volunteers, you will need to keep a weekly time sheet of your volunteer hours to be submitted to the Community Services Coordinator by the end of every month.
