Whether it’s working directly with Casa Kids, helping with fundraising at special events, providing child care, assisting administration, or participating in Board leadership, your involvement is important to us.

Internship Opportunities

Casa de Amparo is excited to offer a variety of internship opportunities to help you as a student, gain valuable experience as you prepare for the future. Unpaid internships are available for students who are currently enrolled in a program whose field is related to the mission and purpose of Casa de Amparo.

Interested in Volunteering Regularly, on a Weekly Basis?

REGULAR VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 18 and older where Casa Kids are present and 21 and older where alcohol is served.
  • Must be able to commit for a minimum of 8 hours a month for at least 6 months.
  • Provide proof of a recent TB test.
  • Federal Clearances -- FBI, DOJ and CACI are required for this position (all previous criminal convictions will be reported, even if "expunged"). If you have an active CCL exemption for all 3 clearances, you may be eligible for a clearance transfer. Casa de Amparo will not process exemptions for applicants. The cost is aproximately $96.00. Volunteers are required to cover this cost. If you volunteer consistently for 6 months you may request a reimbursement. Thank you for your understanding.

HOW TO APPLY -

Recruitment for regular volunteer opportunities during 2017 take place during the following months: January, February, September, and October. The application will be posted here beginning on the first business day of the each recruitment periods.

Your application will be reviewed in the order it is received. You will then be asked to come in for an interview, orientation, and training if it appears that Casa de Amparo would provide a positive volunteer experience for you.

Current Volunteer Openings

LOCATIONS: Administrative Offices in San Marcos & New Directions in Oceanside

AVAILABLE SHIFTS: Monday through Friday, volunteers typically work one to two days per week for two to four hours per shift between the hours of 9 am to 4 pm.

DESCRIPTION:

QUALIFICATIONS: Telephone skills, written and verbal communication, Microsoft Office skills, listening, professional demeanor and actions, client/customer focus, organization, handles pressure, supply management.

GENERAL FUNCTION: Serve visitors by greeting, welcoming, and directing them appropriately; notify agency personnel of visitor arrival; maintain safety, cleanliness and telecommunication systems.

MAJOR TASKS:
• Welcome participants and visitors by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
• Direct participants and visitors by maintaining staff directories and providing instructions.
• Maintain security by following procedures; monitoring logbook.
• Maintain telecommunication system by directing calls to appropriate personnel.
• Maintain safe and clean reception and office areas by complying with Casa de Amparo office standards including light cleaning duties.
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing requested tasks as needed.
• Comply with volunteer requirements, including but not limited to fingerprints, TB test, and wearing a badge at all times. Keep record of hours in the Volunteer Sign-in log.

LOCATIONS: North County

AVAILABLE SHIFTS: Various shifts available Monday through Friday between 9 am to 3 pm.

DESCRIPTION:

QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to lift at least 50 pounds. Skilled at driving trucks and have a good driving record. Have a friendly attitude to work with donations/donors. Hard working, “can do” attitude to handle many manual labor oriented assignments. Ability to keep things organized and understand/keep current on what items we have on hand in our donation inventory. Trustworthy and understand that items being donated are all entrusted by donors to go directly to programs and clients whenever possible.

GENERAL FUNCTION: This position will assist staff with the pick-up of regular donations, coordinate with programs to deliver needed items from our donation inventory, help with set up and break down of events, move donations to appropriate storage locations, perform light maintenance duties and errands for maintenance department as needed.

MAJOR TASKS:
• Pick-up of weekly donations from Feeding America (Grocery Stores) and deliver to programs based on need and priority and put other items in storage.
• Pick-up of weekly donations from Costco and deliver to programs based on need and priority and put everything else in storage
• Pick-up donations as assigned by Development Associate and ensure that donation forms are filled out and turned in for any items donated.
• Help to keep donations sorted/organized with help from a volunteer
• Coordinate pick-ups from other non-profits as needed and deliver to front office in time for pick up
• Coordinate delivering donations from storage to all programs. Help managers decide what is needed and or available in donation inventory. Work with Development Associate to facilitate this.
• Go to pick-up supplies needed around campus for maintenance, program, administration, development, etc. Will include items from printers, office supply stores, hardware stores, etc.
• Help Programs with shopping/loading and unloading of supplies

LOCATIONS: Casa Kids Campus in San Marcos & New Directions Office in Oceanside

AVAILABLE SHIFTS: Various shifts available Monday through Friday during the hours of 9 am to 5 pm.

DESCRIPTION:

Put your organizational skills to good use! Volunteers are needed to help to sort and organize in-kind donations.

LOCATIONS: New Directions in Oceanside

AVAILABLE SHIFTS: Shifts vary based on program needs.

DESCRIPTION:

QUALIFICATIONS : Must have experience working with small children and knowledge of child safety. Must work an assigned schedule, requesting a schedule change if needed. Professional individual who is dependable, nurturing, and consistent with children and parents.

GENERAL FUNCTION: Provide daycare services to parenting participants while they engage in parenting groups.

MAJOR TASKS:
• Work with other volunteers/staff to supervise approximately 2-10 children ages 9 months to 5 years old, being aware of safety factors and provide children an environment which encourages maximum physical and intellectual development.

• Keep daycare room clean and in orderly condition. Share responsibility for daily housekeeping as necessary.

• Perform other educational or support duties as needed.

• Feeding and diaper changing of children as needed.

• Comply with volunteer requirements, including but not limited to fingerprints, TB test, and wearing a badge at all times. Keep record of hours in the Volunteer Sign-in log.
