Internship Opportunites

We will review applications until the 2nd week of July, conduct interviews at the end of July, and applicants selected will be brought on starting the end of August.

 

Casa de Amparo is excited to offer a variety of internship positions to help you as a student, gain valuable experience as you prepare for the future. Unpaid internships are available for students who are currently enrolled in a program whose field is related to the mission and purpose of Casa de Amparo.

Requirements:

  • An uninterrupted, 3 month minimum commitment and at least 8 hours per week.
  • Must be an enrolled student and be receiving credit for internship.
  • Must be able to pass a background check at the interns expense. The approximate cost is $96 and may be reimbursed after 60 hours AND 6 months of service.

These requirements do not apply for students who are interested in completing 20 hours or less within a semester. Instead, please complete the One-Time Event Volunteer Application.

Open Positions

LOCATION: New Directions Office, Oceanside

REPORTS TO: Program Manager

GENERAL FUNCTION: Assists with planned activities for young adult’s ages 18-25 years, including non-minor dependents and their children in a transitional housing setting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be receiving school credit.
  • Must be able to be associated with Casa de Amparo through Community Care Licensing (CCL), which typically includes clearance by FBI, DOJ and CACI.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and possess maturity, good judgment and the ability to be a positive role model for young adult’s ages 18-25 years old.
  • Must have the ability to effectively set limits and function in crisis and high stress situations.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team.
  • English proficient; bilingual/bicultural preferred.
  • Must have the physical ability to participate in activities and perform related physical skills.
  • Ability to comply with all volunteer requirements including, but not limited to TB clearance, and drug screen.

MAJOR TASKS:

  • Provide care that is respectful of differing cultures and the norms that exist within various cultures.
  • Provide assistance to participants with resume preparation, job seeking, and school applications
  • Shadow the Advocate/Educator in their tasks to better understand the Advocate position.
  • Attend monthly group meetings.
  • Assist with the Fresh Rescue food delivery by organizing/stacking food on the food shelves.
  • Assist with making phone calls to current and potential participants.
  • Help with administrative tasks as needed such as filing, inputting data, prepare new intake packets.
  • Provide additional support as appropriate.

LOCATION: Casa Kids Campus, San Marcos

REPORTS TO: Program Manager

GENERAL FUNCTION: Assists with planned activities for children ages 12-17 years, including non-minor dependents and their children in a residential treatment setting.

QUALIFICATIONS: • Must be receiving school credit.
• Must be able to be associated with Casa de Amparo through Community Care Licensing (CCL), which typically includes clearance by FBI, DOJ and CACI.
• Must be at least 25 years of age and possess maturity, good judgment and the ability to be a positive role model for children.
• Must have the ability to effectively set limits and function in crisis and high stress situations. Must be able to work as part of a team.
• English proficient; bilingual/bicultural preferred.
• Must have the physical ability to participate in activities and perform related physical skills.

MAJOR TASKS: 1. Assist in assuring the safety of residents and their children.
2. Assist in organizing and providing enriching, age-appropriate activities for residents.
3. Assist residents during their daily schedule including, chores, meals, and recreation.
4. Provide care that is respectful of differing cultures and the norms that exist within various cultures.
5. Help with administrative tasks as needed.
6. Provide additional support as appropriate.

SITE:   Casa Kids Campus

REPORTS TO: PR & Marketing Specialist

General Function:  This position supports internal and external communications under the advisement of the PR & Marketing Specialist and as part of the Development Team. This individual will focus on researching and identifying the best unique ways to support the organization in developing Casa de Amparo’s mission within the community. As a team player, they will be encouraged to be proactive and creative in brainstorming and leading ideas and will be empowered to gain a breadth of understanding around public relations, marketing, social media and design best practices. They will also work on special projects to preserve Casa de Amparo’s past.

Qualifications: Qualifications include a passion for social media, marketing and PR. The PR & Marketing Intern must work well independently, but be open to collaboration.

  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be working toward or have completed a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Must be able to be associated with Casa de Amparo through Community Care Licensing (CCL), which typically includes clearance by FBI, DOJ and CACI
  • English proficient; bilingual/bicultural preferred.
  • Must have the physical ability to participate in activities and perform related physical skills.
  • Ability to comply with all volunteer requirements including, but not limited to TB clearance.

MAJOR TASKS:

  1. Crafting social media posts
  2. Brainstorming unique angles for brand positioning
  3. Writing Press Releases and pitching media
  4. Writing copy for social media posts and eblasts
  5. Developing and updating media lists

EXPERIENCE THAT WILL BE ACQUIRED: Exposure to nonprofit social services sector and experience in marketing, PR, and social media.

EFFECT ON END RESULT: This position primarily supports PR for Casa de Amparo and thus ensures that the organization gains exposure and potential new support.
